Wimbledon will follow the American and Australian Opens in employing video review systems.
Video review technology are set to arrive at Wimbledon this year.
Competitors will gain the option to challenge certain calls from the official, mirroring the protocol already in use at both the US Open and the Australian Open.
This technology will be accessible on the main stadium and Court One for the duration of the tournament and on the remaining show courts when they are staging singles contests.
This move comes just a year after the All England Club introduced ELC, which effectively ended the centuries-old role of line officials.
Scope of Challenges
Players cannot to dispute the call of the electronic line calling, but they can request the umpire to re-examine other decisions, such as:
- Whether a ball has bounced twice.
- Whether a shot touched an opponent's racquet or person during play.
- Possible interference end of a point.
Notably, there will be no limit on the amount of reviews a competitor can request.
A Recent Example
A recent case occurred in a recent tournament last week, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against his opponent.
Draper admitted it was a difficult call for the umpire, but thought his opponent had "used the regulations quite well."
Official Aurelie Tourte watched a video and ruled Draper was responsible for hindrance, awarding the point to his opponent.
Broader Adoption
Video reviews are not exclusive to Grand Slams. The system has been in use at the American major since 2023 and the Aussie Open since 2025.
Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour plans to have the system implemented at every one of its tournaments.
Other Changes
Another innovation at The Championships 2025 will be the addition of visual indicators on scoreboards to complement the verbal announcements from the ELC system.
This solves instances where fans have occasionally been unsure whether a shot was in or out.
In other news, with precisely 100 days to go until the beginning of the Championships, organizers have further revealed an increase in daily capacity at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
